Heartland Bank

Heartland Bank partnered with Studio DB to create a vibrant and flexible workplace in the heart of the Christchurch CBD. Designed to reflect their evolving brand and people‑first values, the new space supports growth, wellbeing, and a strong sense of connection. It is shaped by three core pillars: connecting people, welcoming the future, and showcasing the South.

Heartland Bank collaborated with Studio DB to transform their Christchurch headquarters into a workplace that truly reflects their mātāpono, which focus on doing what is right, fostering teamwork, encouraging innovation, and aiming high. The result is a sophisticated yet energetic environment that supports both professional excellence and personal wellbeing.

Studio DB supported the transition from their Riccarton Road office to their new location just off Regent Street. This involved a detailed review of Heartland’s existing environment and future needs, along with a comprehensive property search to ensure the new location met both operational goals and cultural aspirations. Feature ceiling lighting, collaboration spaces, meeting rooms, and a welcoming cafe hub all contribute to a workplace that feels engaging and connected.

The new workplace brings Heartland Bank’s people and digital strategies together on a single floor plate to strengthen collaboration, reduce silos, and support a more unified culture. Flexibility is a key element of the design so the environment can easily evolve with industry changes and organisational growth.

The design blends refined, timeless materials with warm textures to create a calm and focused atmosphere for client interactions and team collaboration. Carefully planned zoning provides privacy where required while still maintaining a feeling of openness and natural movement throughout the space. Earthy, grounded tones acknowledge Heartland Bank’s South Island heritage and create a strong sense of place, while still looking toward the future.

At the centre of the space is the cafe hub and its surrounding breakout areas. These warm social zones encourage spontaneous conversations, informal catch‑ups, and energetic idea sharing. They help foster a sense of community and support a vibrant workplace culture.

This project reflects Heartland Bank’s commitment to creating a workplace that supports how their people work, connect, and grow together.
