Egis, a global leader in engineering, infrastructure, and mobility, partnered with Studio DB to deliver a workplace for their Auckland office that reflects both their international expertise and their deep connection to the communities they shape. Drawing on the dual strength of local knowledge and global capability, the design combines natural warmth, soft neutrals, and layered texture to create a grounded, welcoming environment that fosters collaboration, connection, and pride for the Egis NZ team.

The Egis brief called for a contemporary workplace that captures the company’s vision of shaping cities and connecting people, while establishing a strong sense of place for their New Zealand team. Located in Auckland’s CBD, the project delivers a refined floorplate that balances precision and innovation with cultural relevance, supporting a business whose work touches the infrastructure and environments we all live in.
The design narrative, Grounded, Welcoming, Balanced, Textural, Contemporary, is expressed through natural yet progressive materials and a palette that nods to both infrastructure and environment. Studio DB worked closely with Egis stakeholders to shape a workplace strategy that balances open plan working with a range of meeting, focus, and wellness settings, supporting both heads-down work and fluid interaction across functions. Staff wellbeing was a key consideration, with smart spatial planning used to maximise natural light across the floorplate, drawing daylight deep into the workspace to support focus, energy, and a healthier day-to-day experience.

Arrival and breakout spaces are designed as welcoming hubs that encourage connection. The arrival area features soft seating, layered textures, and a refined accent vinyl floor, while the kitchen and breakaway zone acts as a central social space, anchored by warm timber-look flooring in a herringbone pattern, a tiled splashback, timber joinery, and café-style seating that supports informal gathering and team moments. The bench seating has been carefully designed to be shifted and reconfigured, giving Egis the flexibility to adapt the space for everything from casual catch-ups to larger team gatherings and events.
Materiality reinforces Egis’ brand and values throughout the floor. Natural warmth and soft neutrals are balanced with greenery and texture, with stone-toned accents, layered carpet finishes in the meeting suites, and warm timber joinery working together to create a cohesive aesthetic. Subtle brand colour is introduced through finishes, upholstery, and joinery details, reinforcing identity in a considered and integrated way.
Sustainability and reuse were embedded in the design approach. Existing furniture was retained and reupholstered where appropriate, reducing embodied carbon and ensuring the outcome reads as a unified, considered whole. The result is a workplace that supports performance, wellbeing, and long-term flexibility for a globally connected engineering and infrastructure business, a space that feels grounded in Aotearoa while reflecting the scale and ambition of Egis worldwide.
