Waitomo Fuel is a 100-percent Kiwi, family-owned and operated business with a rich history dating back to 1947, and it has been a vital part of fueling Kiwis across New Zealand ever since. With a strong presence in the heart of the Waikato in Hamilton, the company operates over 75 Fuel Stops and Diesel Stops and covers a significant distance, stretching from Paihia to Dunedin.
Waitomo Fuel approached Studio DB as they had outgrown their current space and were looking to create a more permanent workplace solution that celebrates the humble beginnings and bright future for Waitomo Fuel. Their focus was to enhance connectivity with teams, clients, and the community, and maintain a family-like atmosphere.
One of the initial steps was the need to understand whether the current shed which was on the purchased site could be upcycled and developed into a space which would be fit for purpose or demolish and build. Working through this phase it became clear that reusing the existing building wasn’t only more sustainable it was the best option for Waitomo.
The Waitomo Fuel Head Office is a space that feels like home for all those who visit. The material palette responds to the surrounding environment. The industrial feel is warmed up with pops of colour, timber, warm lighting and textured finishes.
