WSP partnered with Studio DB to transform their Nelson office into a modern, agile workspace that reflects their commitment to innovation, sustainability, and regional development. The design prioritised flexibility and collaboration, creating a functional environment tailored to the needs of the local team and supporting WSP’s continued growth in the region.
From concept to completion, our collaboration with WSP Nelson, an engineering consultancy with a strong regional presence, was guided by clarity, responsiveness, and a deep understanding of the team’s operational and cultural needs. A key aspect of the project was our engagement with local iwi, ensuring that cultural values and perspectives were meaningfully incorporated throughout the design process. This partnership enriched the project, grounding it in the local context and fostering a sense of place and belonging.
Working closely with key stakeholders, we developed a design that supports WSP’s growth in the region while aligning with their values of innovation, sustainability, and technical excellence.
The new Nelson workspace is designed to foster collaboration and adaptability, supporting a range of workstyles and encouraging team connection. With flexibility built in, the space is equipped to evolve alongside WSP’s future needs. Key features include a dedicated drying room to support the team’s active lifestyle, a secure storage room for equipment and personal items, and a calming wellness space that promotes wellbeing and balance in the workplace.
Sustainability was a core focus throughout the project, with a strong emphasis on the reuse of materials and thoughtful selection of finishes to reduce environmental impact. Cultural acknowledgements are woven into the design, with subtle references that honour local heritage and community values. The space also draws inspiration from the surrounding landscape, incorporating visual cues and design elements that reflect the Nelson skyline and natural environment, creating a meaningful connection between the workplace and its regional context.
Particular attention was given to creating a secure and efficient environment, ensuring the workspace meets high standards for confidentiality and performance, which are essential for a leading professional services firm in the engineering sector.
